Task 4.3.1. Data preparation: species data & species traits
Task lead: Martin Zobel, University of Tartu, Estonia
This task aimed to provide plant trait information for testing assembly rules in plant communities. We collated information about morphological and functional traits of central and north European plant species from various published databases.
In addition, we measured trait values of plant species in those communities which will be addressed in more detail. Seed terminal velocity was measured for alpine grassland species. Annual vegetative mobility, height and biomass allocation were measured, and mycorrhizal status determined, for forest understory species. The usefulness of these traits in addressing community assembly rules will be tested.
